❌ you’re learning AI wrong

June 9, 2025

How do I learn AI?

It’s the question most people are asking — and while it’s understandable, it’s also misleading.

Because AI isn’t something you study in the traditional sense.

There’s no fixed curriculum. No official roadmap. No ladder to climb.

The better question is:

How do I run AI through the skill I already understand?

That one reframe changes everything.

It shifts you from passive learning to active transformation.

Find Your Leverage, Not Just Another Tool

When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, I didn’t rush to download every tool or chase the noise.

I paused and asked a quieter question:

Where do I already have depth?

For me, that was business — but business was too broad to be useful.

So I narrowed in on marketing.

Then came the real question:

How is AI going to reshape marketing?

Not in theory, but in the workflows I already use to deliver value.

And from that process, the Ultimate ChatGPT Bible was born in early 2023.

AI Isn’t a Topic. It’s a Current.

That’s when I stopped treating AI as something to learn — and started treating it as something to thread through.

Not a new career. Not a technical mountain.

Just a new layer of electricity running through a familiar system.

In the 1880s, when electric light was first installed in British coal mines, productivity didn’t rise simply because workers could see.

It rose because they could now work longer hours, even in winter and at night.

Output soared — not because the labour changed, but because the conditions did. (Regardless of ethics, it marked a turning point in productivity.)

AI is doing the same.

You don’t need to become someone else.

You just need to install a new current into the work you already do.

The Power of Going Deep

This approach draws from the T-shaped model, developed at IDEO and popularised by Tim Brown.

The concept is simple: build deep expertise in one area, and enough range to collaborate across others.

But in the age of AI, that horizontal range can now be automated or accelerated.

Which makes your vertical depth more important than ever.

AI can simulate breadth.

Only you can bring judgment, nuance, and domain-specific thinking to the work.

Here’s What the Bridge Actually Looks Like

Skill → AI Integration → Niche Workflow → Leverage & Authority

You start with what you already know.

You layer AI on top — prompts, agents, automations, or systems.

That changes how you work.

And from that new workflow, you gain leverage: more time, more output, more authority.

Whether you’re a solo freelancer, a service provider, or already running a lean team — the Skill Bridge starts in the same place: with what you already know.

Real-world examples:

  • A family lawyer building a simple contract-generation bot

  • A recruiter using AI to pre-screen CVs and analyse tone

  • A fitness coach offering tailored plans through form-to-agent flows

  • A copywriter using ChatGPT as strategist, researcher, and editor — not a threat, but a co-creator

They’re not learning AI in the abstract.

They’re applying it in ways that compound over time.

Your First Move: Design the Bridge Before You Cross It

Most people try to “learn AI” by dabbling across tools.

But the fastest way in — and the most strategic — is to build from what you already do best.

That’s what this prompt helps you do.

It’s not a one-size-fits-all productivity tip. It’s an entry point into transformation, tailored to your specific strengths.

Prompt to begin your AI Skill Bridge:

Act as a world-class AI strategist with deep expertise in systems thinking, business transformation, and personal leverage.

Your task is to help me design an AI integration plan tailored to my unique skill set.

First, help me clarify:

• What is my core domain of expertise?

• What specific sub-niche or use-case do I understand better than most?

• What value do I already create — and how do I deliver it today?

Then, based on that:

• Identify 3–5 ways AI could be integrated to radically improve my outcomes, speed, or scalability

• Suggest key tools, agents, or automations I should explore first, with one use-case I can implement in 30 days

• Propose a simple 3-month AI learning and integration roadmap focused entirely on my domain

Keep your response practical, tailored, and direct.

Assume I have no time for fluff — only systems that work.

What’s the one skill you’ve developed over years that still feels under-leveraged?

That’s where your bridge starts.

Recap: Four Moves That Change Everything

  1. Clarify your domain

  2. Identify high-leverage AI use cases

  3. Build your first intelligent workflow

  4. Stack systems that create authority and scale

The Skill Bridge Method helps you run AI through your core skill, redesign your workflows, and unlock leverage without chasing trends.
